Something that really resonated with me through our past discussions on different kinds of knowledge and living is the video we watched about the different tribes and groups of people. I immediately saw how different their “knowledge” was from my “knowledge”. It was interesting to think about what life would be like living with their knowledge and their practices. It made me sad to realize what humanity has come to, and how most of us are almost completely separated from the earth and nature, even though it surrounds us at all times. Watching the way that the different tribes and communities interacted with their surroundings was inspiring. They cling to a simple form of life with no intervention or corruption by media or technology. They cherish the animals they live with and the earth they use to survive.
The discussions recently have gotten me thinking about what I personally can do to improve my relationship with the world around me. I have realized how materialistic I am and how much I am missing out on. I have realized that even though every human being lives on this earth, we all have such different ways of thinking and such different opinions on things. We all almost live in our own worlds, even though we are really neighbors. This reminded me of a song that I love called “One Tribe.” It talks about all the evil in the world and how we are all really just one people, and need to come together as one in order to make the world a better place. Although I have never done anything specifically to change the way the world functions, it is never too late. I think that if people are more educated on these things that we have discussed and watched videos on in class, it will be easier to change and become one people.
