A part of the reading that resonates with the viewing of “An Ecology of Mind” is the idea of relationships. This reading talks about relationships, which is a big thing in the movie. The article discusses how we unconsciously make decisions based on feel, not having a complete understanding of the situation. This decision we make ultimately has the implication that our underlying relationships, which we do not consciously acknowledge, is the reason that we made these decisions. We each possess distinct, unconscious relationships with things, which may be the reason why there are no two people who think the same on every topic.
The film overall had an impact on my thinking. It made me realize how much I wasn’t thinking about, such as patterns and double binds. Now that I have learned about the topics discussed in the film, I’m starting to view the world in a different manner, thinking about things based on how they relate to one another, and being able to recognize double binds when they occur and possible solutions to remedy the problem.
Over time, the ideas in the film and reading will change. They change because as said before, everything is constantly changing. It is impossible to catalog everything in the world; everything is constantly changing, therefore data needs to be constantly collected if one is to attempt to objectively view the world. Also, these ideas change because as time goes on and people adapt to this mode of thought, new subsections to this topic will emerge. Also, the way of thinking of two people is never the same so this topic will change accordingly depending on who the leading figure on this idea is.
